MEMBRANE DISTILLATION CELL
The Membrane Stack Plate assembly consists of following items:
From the above list of items except IN plate, OUT plate and Plain Gaskets, all the other items are marked with numbers from 1 to13 and with right side indication R.
Those numbered Gaskets, Membranes, PP Plates & SS Sheets to be arranged in ascending order as shown in the drawing below with R always on the rightside, facingup while assembling the stack from bottom (In Plate) to top (Out Plate) in the ascending order of numbers.
DCMD:
In DCMD method, Hot Saline Water flows across the Hydrophobic surface of membrane & Cold Fresh water flows across the other surface of the membrane. The membrane being hydrophobic, water shall not permeate through.
Due to High Temperature, saline water side contains higher vapour – which alone shall permeate through the membrane to the other side and gets condensed when it comes into contact with Cold Fresh water recirculation.
Cold Water + Permeate together shall be collected on the other side.
VMD:
In VMD method, Hot Saline Water flows across hydrophobic surface of the membrane and other side is provided with an air gap + SS sheet.Other side of SS sheet, cold water is circulated. Between the SS sheet and Membrane, the vapour is collected & condensed due the cold water recirculation on the other side of SS sheet. This condensed permeate shall be collected by a vacuum pump separately.
